Today's lesson while easily delivered, is tough to manifest and most don't even try, so hear my decree and know these are mandates to success:
1) User pathways - If you do not map out how each site-user is going to navigate the site, then you're not doing all you can to direct them to the things you want them to see.
2) Call to action - If you do not have call to action messages - links, incentives and blatant pandering - to get people to do something, (contact you, buy something, recommend the site, provide advice or feedback, etc....) then you might as well buy billboard space along a lonely desert road. Create an email database of these contacts and ask permission to communicate with them and you opportunities increase with each new contact.
Are there more things to consider then this? Many, many more things, but focus on these initially and your chances of getting the rest of it correct increase dramatically.
