I have been with GoDaddy.com since they began pretty much and hold over 400 domain names with them and to this point have been very happy with their service and services, but that changed recently when I felt the extortionist ways after accidentally letting some domain names lapse in renewals.
Fortunately, these were my own domains and no customers suffered, but it was a bad mistake I'll never make again for many, many reasons. One of the more significant reasons is due to the fact that GoDaddy allows a grace period after the expiration to go back and actually renew and regain ownership of those domains you want to retain. Pretty cool, right? WRONG! For the domains I wanted to renew it came to over $200 per domain name for a total well into the thousands.
What about using their "Domain Name Back-ordering" solution? That's only $19.95 per domain name, but this just puts you on a list of the unwitting as you don't know if anyone is ahead of you or not and there is no explanation of how the, "winning" back-order is selected if not by the first person who signed-up for it. Good luck!
I understand I made a mistake, but the penalties associated are egregious compared to the value and so I must say, "Goodbye! My dear domains and may I see you on the other side, when nobody does take them and I can register anew for only $15!"
